Summary:

“What can a starship do?” That is the question that we set out to answer. Developing more from just delivering food for college students, we wanted to look for much more possible capabilities. By using true UX design methodologies such as user interviews, ideation design prototyping, sketches, storyboarding, and user evaluations, we were able to come up with an exciting solution to incorporate human-human connection with the starship robots.

Preliminary Research

Initial Interviews

We first conducted initial interviews to gather information about the issues associated with the Starships from Purdue University students' perspectives. Our main goal of the interview was to find out potential improvements for Starships and how it can be developed for purposes beyond delivery services. For the results, we were able to narrow down the common trends: Delivery Times, Navigation issues, Comparative Advantage, and Suggestions for improvement.

Secondary Research

We conducted further research to find more about how starships could be used by looking at similar delivery and service robots. I found this article called, “The Future Of Delivery Robots”. From this Article, I was able to learn about the efficiency of delivery robots. It emphasizes their reliable delivery, prioritization of safety, and introduces an autonomous driving system.

Preliminary Research Results:

With these findings, we were able to come up with our main goal for this project:

This project outlines our journey using UX design methods like user interviews, brainstorming, ideation, prototyping, sketches, storyboarding, and user evaluations. Our main focus was to enhance human-human connections with starship robots.
